This community is to help me and others find ways to make their journals look how we want them too.

I wouldn't say I'm an expert at messing with layouts though I have figured out a lot about Flexible Squares. If you have a question please feel free to ask me by commenting below.

Couple Rules:

1. And example of your problem or what you want done to your journal.
2. Sometimes it can take me a little while to find the information asked for, so please be patient.
3. I don't do slash-y type things (ie headers). I can still provide you with a layout but then header would have to come from somewhere else.

LJ is dropping the ball a little and so community moderators aren't getting their comments. So if you don't hear back from me in a few days head over HERE to let me know if you need any help.

Hi! I was looking for a wintery Supernatural layout. I like the style sheet I have now, but I was wonder if you could help me a bit. I like the way my LJ is laid out ,but I want more blue in it instead of green and a header that is winter-ish and Supernatural-ish all at the same yime. THANKS!

I'm guessing you want the text color of your layout to change because it is really dark and very hard to read? You like the black and dark gray tones you have though right?

Supernatural as in Sam and Dean or do you prefer one over the other (see my journal at sireesanwar)... other characters? Do you have any images you really love? I might have to outsource the image which isn't too much of a problem... though I might be able to do it too.

I'm better at figuring out the layout.

All is fine, until you have to go back previous entries and all of a sudden the post column becomes really thin. Do you know what I need to change to get it all the right size? thank you!

I think the only reason the first set of pages is that big is that their are images keeping it that wide. As you can see I changed the body block width. This should keep it the same as your header links.

The page block width is what should be keeping it from downsizing on you. So I hope this helps. If not... let me know.

You can just copy this code for the section in your coding.

I know exactly what you mean. You don't want you actual posts, when going into them and when people comment, to be formatted. So here is how to change that....

1. Go to Customize Journal Style (http://www.livejournal.com/customize/options.bml).
2. Under Display there is a section called Presentation. You want to change "Disable customized comment pages for your journal".
3. Change it to Yes and save.

Done!

I have a few questions regarding Smooth Sailing. I went ahead and took a screenshot of some problems I'm having in terms of fixing my layout to my liking, and was hoping you guys could help me out. :) I'll be willing to save the entire CSS in a notepad and send it over e-mail or IM if it'll be easier for you guys to fix that way. :D

The Red - I got rid of the links here that said "memories" and other things that I felt did nothing but clutter my layout. Doing that left these unsightly boxes that still lead to the links when hovered over. Is there anyway to get rid of this so only the "recent entries", "archive", "friends", and "user info" boxes are showing?

The Pink - This is mostly me being OCD, but I'd like to make these little bars shorter. I read through the CSS fully and still was unable to find a place that allowed me to change the width of the bars. :(

The Green - I was confused on how to change the date to just say, "Sunday, March 29th, 2009". The time I posted it not important and I rather it not be there as well.

Sorry if I'm asking too much! I really appreciate it though if you can manage to help my OCD self. :) Thank you a million times over!

1. The Header Nav Bar.
You can remove these unwanted links by going to Customize Journal Style (http://www.livejournal.com/customize/options.bml). Go to the Menu options and mark both "Show Memories link on Menubar" and "Show Website link from Userinfo page on Menubar" to NO. This will take care of that header menu bar.

2. Date.
In you coding you will find this section:
.entryHeaderDate {
float:right;
color:#ffffff; <--- see white
font-size:8pt;
text-decoration:none;
}
The only way I could get the date to "disappear is to simply change the dates text color to match the background. Any other option requires a custom layer.

3. Sidebar Headers
In your coding you will find this:
.sideboxTitle {
width: 100px; <---- Added this line
background:#3d3d3d;
padding: 8px 6px 6px;
color:#fff;
font-size: 8pt;
font-face: arial;
text-align:justify;
letter-spacing: 2px;
text-transform:lowercase;
}
I added a width line in my test. This changed the width. Its default is 200px because that is the width of the sidebar. You can change it to your desired width.

4.Entry Linkbar
So far I've found no way of getting rid of your unwanted links that doesn't involve a Custom Layer. I'm going to keep working in hopes I will find the solution.

Firstly, I just want to thank you for putting up such a helpful post for us all. It's very kind of you to do so :). Very useful for someone who's clueless about layouts like me.

The problem that I'm having is adding a header to a minimalism layout. The one that I tried is here (http://community.livejournal.com/mentahelada/13972.html). I wanted to put the header (which is here (http://i713.photobucket.com/albums/ww134/kiraatsumyst05/atsugari08resized900.jpg)) above the navigation icons.

I did follow the instructions for adding header to minmalism that was given on this site but that came out all out of place.

If you have any advice on this, I'd be very grateful :).

Okay. I think I'm stumped. The only thing I can think of is that you should make sure your using Flexible Squares when using my layout.

As for the bars at the bottom or top. I think this is because you are a plus account and they are trying to add advertisements. I would either go down to a Basic Account or I would try going into the advertisements and seeing if you can turn them off. I don't know if you can do this but I would check it out.

As for the edit tags. I don't know why it would disappear. I wonder if that has something to do with the ads or possibly the Template.... like I said make sure you are using Flexible Squares.

Hey, i just changed my layout to a winter theme and used your CSS for the mama mia layout. I'd like to put a color border around my user pic and have spaces between each entry. I also really like the look of rounded corners. I went to look at your css tutorials and found info on the image border but its not working when i enter it.

Hi there, I'm currently using a Flexible Squares layout and I've noticed that a couple of communities/journals, in their navigation section (where the recent entries/user info/etc links are), they added an extra link, which is something of their own.

I'm wondering on how to do too for my own layout because my current layout has disabled sidebars. An example for my problem would be: http://community.livejournal.com/estiloamor (check out her navigation) If it's helpful, I'm using the exact same layout as this community as well.

Okay so I think I know what you mean. In flexible squares to have just the one link besides the default links (recent/calendar/friends/profile) you go into your Profile for the account you are using and put the link there. This will show up as the extra link on the journal. Any other links require a paid account and Custom Stylesheet work.

I changed my layout (yet again), and i'm using your smooth sailing theme. I changed a bunch of things including the font. One thing i can't seem to figure out is how/where to change the font size in a few places. One place is the entry header. I did change it once but i can't seem to make it bigger again. The other place is the lj user name under each persons icon. And lastly the size of my lj name at the top of the sidebar. Please help, whatever i'm doing is not working.

hi, im totally new to css. i wanted to use ur layout, basically the one titled Blue skies. here is what i did, i have no idea what went wrong, cus the page just wudnt show up as what was shown in preview in ur page.

1. i chose the theme Flexible Squares by chasethestars.
2. clicked on Custom CSS, changed all the questions asked on that page to 'No'.
3. copied the source code from ur page http://community.livejournal.com/layout_lounge/17793.html#cutid1 , took the code thats on top.
4. pasted it on the Custom Stylesheet under Custom CSS, saved the changes.
5. when i load my webpage, nth of familiar showed up. bascially, it was screwed up.
6. this is all i did, i don't think i missed any steps cus i followed the Layout Change For Beginners tutorial. any idea where went wrong? please help, thx a million. im really doing quite a fair bit of reading over at w3school but still... i cant even change the basics. thx again.

All I can think is that problem could be to make sure you are using Nautical in Flexible Squares. Make sure all those questions say no.

I have to wonder if those chasethestars layouts are a problem because the look a little customized.

Actually most of my layouts are made in Autumn for Flexi Sqrs. Try that.

Hi! I happened to find this community while searching for layouts, and I love the fact that you have this little section here for help and requests. It's more than I've found at other communities.

I kind of have a problem, and was hoping you might have a suggestion for me.

I just created a community for pb, or played-by icons. If you're not familiar with the terms, it's just blank icons of various celebrities for the use of online roleplay and whatnot. The community's name is based on the opening lines of the song "Jimmy Olsen's Blues" by the Spin Doctors, and I wanted to have a cloud theme for my grand opening. So I am looking for a layout with clouds. I found one earlier, but it doesn't suit my needs, because I wouldn't be able to use a header with it, and I'd like to have a header. I was wondering if you might know of a layout with clouds that I can use a header with, or I was wondering if you, yourself, might be able to make a layout like this.

I could probably come up with something. Does it matter what kind of clouds? I mean just white and fluffy or does it matter if they are stormy looking... I usually do layouts with 800 width so they are full screen for those with the 800 resolution. I can do that for you... though I might already have a layout that fits your needs.

Do you like light layouts like this one or are you thinking black or gray?

I do have this layout over here... so I can play off of that.

Hi, I tried to do the Colorful Chuck layout. I customized it a bit by changing the colors to fit my header and tried to add some tiny icons. It seemed to be working but now, when I go to my home page, I get frequent running style errors. I've never done this before. Can you help me figure out what I did wrong? Thank you.

You want to change this coding. The padding px go top, right, bottom, left. So you would want to change the first 0px to say 20px. You can mess with the number to see how far down you want the current mood.
