This community is to help me and others find ways to make their journals look how we want them too.

I wouldn't say I'm an expert at messing with layouts though I have figured out a lot about Flexible Squares. If you have a question please feel free to ask me by commenting below.

Couple Rules:

1. And example of your problem or what you want done to your journal.
2. Sometimes it can take me a little while to find the information asked for, so please be patient.
3. I don't do slash-y type things (ie headers). I can still provide you with a layout but then header would have to come from somewhere else.

hi, im totally new to css. i wanted to use ur layout, basically the one titled Blue skies. here is what i did, i have no idea what went wrong, cus the page just wudnt show up as what was shown in preview in ur page.

1. i chose the theme Flexible Squares by chasethestars.
2. clicked on Custom CSS, changed all the questions asked on that page to 'No'.
3. copied the source code from ur page http://community.livejournal.com/layout_lounge/17793.html#cutid1 , took the code thats on top.
4. pasted it on the Custom Stylesheet under Custom CSS, saved the changes.
5. when i load my webpage, nth of familiar showed up. bascially, it was screwed up.
6. this is all i did, i don't think i missed any steps cus i followed the Layout Change For Beginners tutorial. any idea where went wrong? please help, thx a million. im really doing quite a fair bit of reading over at w3school but still... i cant even change the basics. thx again.

All I can think is that problem could be to make sure you are using Nautical in Flexible Squares. Make sure all those questions say no.

I have to wonder if those chasethestars layouts are a problem because the look a little customized.

Actually most of my layouts are made in Autumn for Flexi Sqrs. Try that.

actually, what is the difference? im just curious at why i cant use the theme by chasethestars and i have to use the theme by nautical. how does it work? thyx a lot

I don't actually know though I've been told in the past that sometimes the specific theme of Flexible Squares matters.

So I was thinking maybe if you choose the flexible squares theme called Autumn it might work better. Plus the ones but chasethestars are set up a little different from the other flexible square layouts.

Does that make sense?

sorry for double post, but a 2nd qns came in mind. what do u mean by most of ur layouts are made in Autumn for Flexi Sqrs? is Autumn a program? im really looking at how to customize the look of it but i cant seem to get anywhere.. thx again.

It is okay.

Autumn is the look, theme or layout when you pull up all the Flexible Square layouts when changed from say smooth sailing.

also, another thing i found out. is there a way to remove the calender from the sidebar? or is it only when u have a paid account then u can do so? cus i was thinking if i can add in the days, ie monday, tuesdays, etc, into the calender, but i realised it seems much harder than making do without it.

You should be able to remove the calendar under the sidebar option.

is it possible to remove the sidebar completely? cus i tried putting no to all options under sidebar, but theres still a thin strip of blue at the side. also, i have tried using /* */ under custom css in the sidebar code to comment out the entire code, but it still doesnt work. thx again. another question, can i add in a bunch of code with regards to image rollover myself? or is it not possible to do so?

That would require me to recode the layout and I've never done one without a sidebar. I could try if you would like me too. Just refresh my memory on the code you wanted.

that would be very much appreciated. although i would very much want to try it hands on. as u can see, im still very new to lj and currently, i have no use for the sidebars. perhaps in the near future i may have a use for it, but till then ill do without one. the code i wanted to add in is from cssplay. can i mail u the link in private?

hi there, again, thx a lot for ur help. i have successfully removed the sidebar, but didnt manage to get the image map up. i asked around a few others, and most said i cant get them on LJ, only on my own domain name. nonetheless, im still trying my luck and looking at how it can be done.

do u by any chance have any idea how to post image at its original size? if u take a look at my page, closetdistrict.livejournal.com, u can see that all the images i posted are auto scaled down to 320x214. why is it that case? can i customise/change this part? thx again.

So if you went into the HTML option for the post and simply remmoved the /s320x240 it should work.

thx. it was beautifully done. (: is there a chance to add more headers? by headers im trying to mean the "Archives, Friends, Recent Entries, User Info" i would like to add another one like previous post, etc.

also, i hope to add a paragraph of introduction on the site, so that everytime people visit closetdistrict.livejournal.com, they will alsways see the paragraph there. i hope u know what i mean. thx. (:

I don't think you can change the header per page. I wouldn't know how to.

As for paragraphs. There are two options. One is to make a post that is set in the future. For a regular journal this will work. It is like a Friends Only Post. You keep it in the future so that it is always at the top of the journal.

Or the second is a sticky post. You can see an example
