So on some of my Expressive layouts you'll see this:

Current Tiny Icons: I after a lot of digging I think I've discovered that Expressive doesn't give you the ability to have tiny icons next to your currents (mood, location, music, etc). There is a way to do it with Theme Layers in a paid layout but again, I'm not doing this now. If you know differently please comment and tell me because I couldn't get it to work no matter what I did.
Apparently, I lied. Or forgot how to code for a moment. But I figured out how to give you tiny icons on the currents in expressive.

First, DO NOT CHANGE FROM FLEXIBLE SQUARES if you want to use it and are currently using it. You'll lose it unless you are a paid member of LJ.

Okay so I got to thinking about Flexible Squares not being supported and I'm going to work on newer layouts in supported formats but remember Dreamwidth doesn't have Flexible Squares either and we can use it there. It just takes a little finessing. And once my mind got going on that train, we left the station.

So I dug. And so now the dilemma is that you can use Flexible Squares IF you are a PAID member. So to all the free members out there, I'm going to work on some different themed layouts for those who don't want to pay LJ. But for the paid user here is the hoops to jump through.

All the hoops. Jump! )

I've done a tutorial where you learned a little bit about tables in a post (Mixed Content Side by Side or Tables). But, now, let's talk about coding for your free text or blurb on your sidebar. See it is very different and works a little like your profile. Here is the dilemma we are presented with this image on the right. What I don't want my sidebar to do:

  1. There is a gap at the top of my sidebar

  2. Looks like there more than one line of a gap between my text and my textbox.

  3. All my book images are on a different line

  4. There is a HUGE gap between my book images and my table.

How do we fix this? First, when you see extra spacing on the sidebar, always check the blurb text coding first because sometimes it is just the coding in that section.

Okay this is very different! We should riot? No. Gosh, I know some people want to which I suspect is why [livejournal.com profile] news no longer let's you comment to their posts which is kind of awful but at the same time probably saves their sanity. Still I get the first reactions towards annoyance and downright hatred of this new bar. Believe me. I get how annoying it can be when LJ changes something and our journal's are all messed up and we have no idea what to do to fix it and we are totally frustrated....

You may have recently noticed that LiveJournal has made the "Recent Posts From This Journal" available for Flexible Squares. This is what it looks like over at my journal.

The issue I discovered when it first went live was that it doesn't match my journal layout! What to do...

The solution is we have to learn to code for it. And that is what I will endevor to accomplish in this tutorial.

Don't mind the icon. I don't get paid for this at all. I enjoy it and there are many of you who are always telling me they think they can figure it out but sometimes they get stumped and I'm hoping these explanations of the coding are helping you. If not, let me know what is confusing you.

There are some of you out there that like the default Live Journal view of their posts and comments area. That is totally fine and your comments area is going to look like the below image and not need any of this coding...
Disable Comment Formatting )
But there are those of you who are like me and love their entire journal decked out the way they want it to look. This is how my comments on my personal journal look:
If this you want your comments to be customized like your journal then here is the coding.... you will want to change the above option to No or leave it on No... which ever.

Look it is Rollo from Vikings. Major distraction there... moving on.
