I'm going to address this before I'm asked considering it is a big issue right now. Let's start with the disconnect as that seems like the popular choice right now. The disconnect will disconnect your accidentally possibility of sharing something you don't wish too.
1. First go to your Extension Settings in your account settings.

2. Go to the sections marked Facebook and Twitter and make sure both boxes on each are unchecked.

3. Save this. Now you should not be sharing anything with your Twitter account or your Facebook account.
To connect to Facebook or Twitter you will repeat this only make sure things are checked.
Cross posts only apply to public posts. Anything that you have marked Friends or any other custom group you've made will not be sent to Twitter or Facebook.
The big issue with this is that if someone is replying to you and clicks the cross post then that conversation can be posted to Twitter or Facebook. So removal is important if you want your journal to remain private.
Removing the Facebook and Twitter icons from your journal - 2 Options.
Option 1: Removes the buttons entirely from any part of your journal, preventing friends who have the cross posting options turned on from using it on your journal. This coding was provided by
tinylegacies . This only works if you have the cross posting options from above turned off.
You can go to your Custom Journal Style and paste this code into the Custom Stylesheet box or add it to the code you already have there.
Option 2

I just managed to figure out how to make the "disconnect" code work with Opera. Thank the gods, coz I ♥ Opera. It's easiest browser for me :)
After adding the right script, the buttons finally vanished! So, Greasemonkey/Greasemetal works with Opera browser as well, but you need to create an folder to your opera direction and it's a bit more complicated to make the script work than with firefox & chrome.
Step 01)
Install Greasemonkey/Greasemetal to your computer (if you haven't already)
http://greasemetal.31tools.com/
Step 02)
Create a script folder to your Opera directory. My computer > Acer(C:) > Program Files > Opera > Defaults. Create a folder named "opera-scripts" to the Defaults folder.
Step 03)
Copy these files to the "opera-scripts" folder. I'm not sure, which one started to work, so add both of them just in case. Once you have done that, refresh your browser.

Step 04)
To enable user JavaScript, use Tools > Preferences > Advanced > Content > JavaScript options , and select the directory where you have the User JavaScript files. In this case, you choose "opera-scripts" from your Opera directory. (C:\Program Files\Opera\defaults\opera-scripts) Click ok.
Close and re-open your browser and it should work like a charm!
