Layout Lounge Website Down
Aug. 2nd, 2019 12:29 pmJust a heads up. I was using a Weebly site for a lot of the coding ect I used on this site. I would share the different coding for the Google fonts I loved among other things. Weebly changed some things over on their site and it resulted in the Layout Lounge site being removed. They informed me we were violating TOS but it was really them trying to get large free sites off their system as they've changed from free unlimited sites to free 500MB sites (what site can be 500 MB?? That is like 2 pictures.)
Because of this you might encounter some broken links but I'm going to work on fixing this. Right now it isn't my top priority as I had 2 fan sites on their server which I need to figure out how to rebuild. While I'm good with existing coding, I don't typically do things from scratch so I'm going to have to learn a few things as I go.
Let me know if there is anything you can't get to. I realize the coding for the last 2 layouts is gone now and I'm planning on getting those up for you.
Sorry for the issues.

Date: 2019-08-05 06:41 pm (UTC)LJ I'm 100% up on so I get that coding but I've made 1 site from scratch and that was so long ago things aren't even close to the same now. It was before responsive design which I only know a little about. The navigation is the biggest issue I'm having because I can't seem to get it not to move things down on the page.

Date: 2019-08-08 07:46 am (UTC)my advice for structure is -> for every section make a new css and a new html file to correspond to each other; it‘s easer to keep track of
and the responsiveness is fairly easy archived as long as you have everything in boxes -> boxes are kinda important now though
for the navigation the nav bar works best most of the time, depending on your overall style
we can totally talk over it in pm‘s
or my email is smirkingcat[at]yandex[dot]com
helping without seeing code is rather difficult i noticed when i started the reply
also are you using any tools -> because especially for bigger websites having the right tool is always helpful (but then you are a pro so i totally believe you have that under control and this was just my random thought process)
Hi
Date: 2019-08-09 12:23 pm (UTC)I'm sorry to hear about your troubles with Weebly. These companies trying to milk users for every penny are dispicable! A lot of Flickr users had the same problem last year when Flickr decided to limit how many images you can upload. :(
I really like the layouts you guys make! I used to make graphics too when I was younger, mainly for Neopets users.
I'm having some trouble at the moment and I wonder if I could ask for your guidance?
I run a manga scanlation project across several platforms: tumblr, wordpress and now livejournal.
I'm trying to get my livejournal layout (on this account) to more or less match my wordpress layout in terms of header and background.
Here is my wordpress: https://bunnybluescanlations.wordpress.com/
At the moment I've been going about it by inputting various copy and paste codes in the Custom CSS box on the premade "Clouds" layout. Unfortunately this layout doesn't seem to like the changes I'm trying to make.
I know a little html and Css but this is my first time trying to deal with LiveJournal coding and I feel very lost.
Would I be better off using a different premade layout and editing the code? Should I try to build a layout from scratch?
Thank you so much for your time. Hope you manage to get your websites up and running again soon. ^^ <3

Date: 2019-08-30 06:18 pm (UTC)Yeah, I know a lot of that but the idea of starting from scratch and coding was giving me nightmares. Plus I always feel those sites (when I make them) are held together with string.
I thought my sites were rather small and have since figured out they were not (well LL was but not the others). I needed the plugin help. I can do html and CSS but java is just beyond me.
Thank you so much for the assistance. Just having someone to talk to about it is so helpful. I'm going to screen your comment to protect your email but believe me I'm going to call on you if I need help. But I think I have it covered.
Re: Hi
Date: 2019-08-30 08:13 pm (UTC)I have some tutorials that explain different aspects of my layouts (Flexible Squares Layouts). This could help you if you are using one of mine. Go to this post: https://layout-lounge.livejournal.com/51687.html (sidebar link Tutorial Index) and towards the bottom of the post is the Series on creating a layout. This will give you an idea of what you are doing. Hopefully.
My layouts are inspiration but I full expect people to change things up. That is why I have my tutorials to empower you all to be creative.
And should you need help feel free to ask.
Thanks. So far the site is going well.
Let me know if you just need someone to talk things out with. I know it helps to just run an idea past someone to see if I'm doing things correctly.

Date: 2019-10-31 03:16 pm (UTC)Thank you so much for getting back to me. I found a layout among your treasure trove of layouts I would really like to install. This one called Oxygen: https://layout-lounge.livejournal.com/47657.html
Unforutnately I'm not having much like with installing Flexible Squares. It seems the template has been pulled from the template store on LJ? I tried searching for "Autumn" and "Yati Mansor" as well but no luck. Can I use another template for this layout?
Thank you for all the wonderful work you do. :)
Re: Hi
Date: 2019-10-31 03:24 pm (UTC)Will you be able to tweak the code to work with another template? I'm wishing you luck and sending you positive vibes!

Date: 2019-10-31 06:57 pm (UTC)Re: Hi
Date: 2019-11-01 01:22 am (UTC)As for your question, the layout base I'm currently using is called "Light Clouds", Expressive by Yoksel.
I managed to change the "Light Clouds" banner to a personalized one after reading your tutorials, but unfortunately I can't get the background to work. The background image I wanted to use keeps getting squashed by the theme. So basically the original background image is about 1000x1000px, but once I insert it the layout makes it 1000x200px. I'm really not sure why that's happening.
Another problem was the background covered the entire screen, even my blog entries and sidebar which I wanted to have a white background so my readers could see the text clearly.
So basically for now I'm left with a weird hybrid layout that's only half customized because I can't figure out what's going on with the code. >.<
This is what I'm trying to recreate here on LJ btw: https://bunnybluescanlations.wordpress.com/
