Are you as shocked as I am?

We're very happy to let you know that your Friends page is staying! We've heard you about wanting to keep the current version of your Friends page (styled the same as your journal itself), so you can now keep your current Friends page style even in the redesigned version of the site!

-- This URL (http://exampleusername.livejournal.com/friends) will continue to show your current Friends page style.

-- This URL (http://exampleusername.livejournal.com/feed) will show the new redesigned Friends feed style.
LJ's Post

Seriously? They heard us and there is a heavenly host of angels singing Hallelujah! I mean it is a miracle right?

I don't know if this means clicking on the "friend" link on the navigation of our journals will bring us to the friends page or the feed? For me it goes to the friends page but then I refused to switch to the feed. I can access the feed through the link LJ has provided but my friends page is intact.

If anyone should encounter that they are getting the feed instead of the friends page, comment and I'll see what I can figure out.

I know right? Sweet that they're listening to us. I'm doing fine - just getting my old friends page whenever I log in. I'll let you know if I have a problem - you're my go-to girl for that. :)

Hope you're feeling better btw - I didn't get a chance to comment on your long after vacation post but I did skim through it. I also hope you and phoenix had a great time together. I know she was really looking forward to visiting you -- it's nice to meet LJ friends face to face.

I'm glad you're nearly 100%. That's a huge step from where you were!

Well that's good then. I kind of feel the same about the coughing - if it's allergy related (and I think it might be), then I'm not quite sure what triggers it other than cold (ice cream is bad and I love it) but I'm finding out slowly.

The only problem I've got is I've still got a line at the top of my friends page from where the ages old prompt to switch was. I have no idea how to get rid of the (plus, I'm seeing an ad when I'm posting this comment ... and I'm permanent ... not supposed to see ads) (oh, it turns out they are using ads as captchas... tsk tsk)

Maybe try turning on the new design, switching to the feed, then switching back and going back to the old design.

Edit: And yes, I just realized that I'm suggesting turning it on and back off again.

That fixed it. Evidently, when their previous "switch message" when away, so did the x to dismiss the message, leaving the line.

(I still don't like the fact that the captchas for humans are "enter this line from an ad")

I just went and followed my own advice, in case the gap I'm seeing in this new layout I'm writing was caused by the invisible switch message, and now I'm stuck with the new feed. Which is kind of mixed for me in that I mostly like the new feed, but only the version that shows up with the new site design. And I vastly prefer the old site design, so I'm kind of stuck with the worst possible mix.

As for the change in captchas, up until a few weeks ago it was pretty common to see two or three requests a day about the captchas not working properly. So yay if they switched away from ReCaptcha, boo if it's an ad network in disguise.

I'm hoping that the line "We are aware that this is not ideal behavior and it will change in the near future." means they're working on an option so that people can choose one or the other from their settings, instead of relying on these floating banners.
