So the issue is that some time ago you changed to the new version of the Friends Page and now you can't get back. I discovered a way but it means losing the new updates to LiveJournal for however long they allow it. I am still able to use my version of the Friends Page so I'm hoping the new look won't come along with the permanent version of LJ's site. Since I actually like this update I'd be reluctant to do it but if you don't mind going back to the old LJ look then go for it.

1. Go to your Profile or the LiveJournal homepage. Click the cloud icon on the right. When you click a window will pop up with a link to "Switch Back To Old version". This will remove the new look of LJ and return to the previous site look for however long they make it available. Remember if don't want to go back to the old look, DO NOT continue. Otherwise proceed.

2. Once you've reverted back to LJ's previous look go to your Journal and Click the Friends link in you navbar. Your Friends "Feed" probably looks similar to this. Hopefully, you'll see the highlighted section at the top that tells you to "switch to the old one." This will give you back your customized Friends Page.

If that worked then great. If not it was worth a try right.

For those willing to temporarily lose the new look of LJ and want the old Friends Page back it is worth it. I'm hoping a mass exodus to the old friends page will help them get the hint.

If that doesn't work or you just don't want to try this... you should consider this:
Click on the thought bubble/cloud (whatever it is) in step one and submit feedback under the Redesign section.

Tell them your accounts name and that you are seeing the feed rather than the Friends Page when you click on your friends link. They should be able to reset this for you considering this Support Request.

This is just short breather, they'll force this change (like every previous one) on us eventually, I was told so by support team.

There's no hope they'll get any hint or they care as matter of fact.

It is more than likely true... but in the meantime I use the old friends page in protest. I think more people need to be willing to just stick with the old stuff and maybe they'll get the hint.

Thanks for this. So far everything is okay for me. But it was a bit of a surprise coming on to find everything had changed! Really hate when they change things that don't need changing! Grr!

I just made the switch back. The new layout it hard to navigate. Sometimes I just want to see my Friend's page and not have to go to my journal to find a link to it. Who the hell designed that mess?

It is a bit. Yes! Okay to certain things now being in the navigation is just plain moronic, no? Friends Feed link, userpics, scrapbook. These are things we want to find. I was annoyed with the last update that took my link to all my friends birthdays. Found it btw.

I used this trick to get my old Friends page back when the new version first came out, but as of yesterday I have been forced onto the new version and those links you've shown to switch back are not available. Instead, at the top of my 'entries feed' it says "You're viewing the new version of the Friends page. If you want to use it by default click here." I don't want to, but there's no other option given. And on my profile page, I don't have those 3 icons anymore (question mark, envelope, magnifier). It just says "Switch to new version".

Do you have some direct url you can post that will allow us to switch back to the old version? Or is there some other place in the profile where we can switch it?

My suggestion is to click on the thought bubble/cloud (whatever it is) and submit feedback under the Redesign section.

Sorry it's taken me so long to get back to you, I've been on vacation. I've submitted a support ticket. Hopefully that will have the desired result. Thank you for the tip!

And they did get back to me quickly, but basically it's that LJ sucks hard once again. Their answer is that it's due to the Firefox extension LJ Login (which I use), which they have deemed to be incompatible with LiveJournal. Everyone who uses it is recognized as 'logged out' by the Friends page - even though, you know, you aren't, and you are recognized as logged in everywhere else - and kicked out to the feed.

You know I got rid of an extension for Firefox a long time ago because it started causing me trouble and never thought about it again. Thankfully the one with the random icon (LJ Hook) still works well.

Thank you for the revert link! For me, that was the only way to change it back to the old format, since the thought bubble thingie is no longer there. Dumb question: if I set the old version as my default, can I still switch back to the new version again? Sorry, I just like having options! XD

Did you ever get the old version? It's now 2023 and it seems the feed is now the default. /friends redirects to the feed. :(

Did you try the option at the bottom where you submit a support request asking that your Friend page be reinstate in your account....

Saw this post & was wondering: could you upload a screenshot of what the "friends page" looks like in the new layout? Also, I really hope that everyone here has sent Livejournal feedback about everything they don't like about the new layout. I'm still hoping that the LJ people will actually start listening to what we say.
